Yesterday I met Chris Rushing, CEO and pastor of the Oklevueha Native American Church of Inner Light, in Garden City, Ala. As a licensed and federally registered branch of the Oklevueha Lakota Sioux Nation Native American Church, Chris and his card-carrying members hold federal religious exemptions to allow use of otherwise controlled traditional “medicines” including cannabis, psylocibin mushrooms, and peyote cactus.

Combining Native American traditions with a message of God’s love, Chris’ teachings focus on each individual’s unique path through sacramental use of medicines to open portals to new realities, receive insights and healing, and connect to the Earth and the Creator.
